With its latest tribute “doodle,” Google pays tribute to the late rock legend John Lennon, who would have turned 70 tomorrow.
Like the search-page artwork, Google’s 32-second animation (set to his song “Imagine”) features the former Beatle’s own illustrations. Lennon’s artwork and cartoons have been exhibited in galleries for years, thanks largely to the guiding hand of his widow, Yoko Ono, who herself won acclaim as a Fluxus movement artist before meeting Lennon.
In the doodle, the “o’s” in “Google” are represented by Lennon’s own cartooned self-portrait.
